Tips on drawing

Postby Midna's Fiance » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:42 am

Anyone that draws can you give me advice? How long have you been drawing? Did it come naturally to you? I know it takes a lot of patience, but some of the drawings I have been seeing have been out of this world. How long does it take to do a normal drawing? Is drawing 3D stuff hard first few tries? Thank you all who respond. :rave:

I am friendship, I am the sky, I am Rainbow Dash

the manga in the Hyrule historia makes some sense, but all in all I was confused.

Maybe there's a way for light and shadow to mix

even though I guess you could just look in my thread for this, Ill post it here and try to be more helpful as most people won't look there for tips...

top left is stuff you want to focus on. once you get the head right the body should come pretty naturally to you. If you screw her head up, the whole thing looks pretty weird. The fused shadow is usually difficult to do at first (for me anyway) but one its memorized its actually pretty easy. When you're first starting you can just make the markings up. For her body, you want to remember the wide hips and thighs, as that gives her the imp look. Also, start drawing with very faint lines so they are easily erasable. once it looks alright then you can trace over those lines with darker marks.

prob the most basic outline I've ever done/bothered to scan in.

Image
a "completed" outline for one I'm currently coloring with gimp. It looks intimidating, but its easier than it looks. And I know there's a lot of mistakes. I'm fixing them on gimp.

Image
before and after. top was traced and I still screwed it up pretty bad compared to that same outline. I made the top tracing immediately after completing tp and was the first drawing I made in a long time. (and that reminds me, I have to draw her riding Rayquaza. :P )

I've been drawing for around 2 months or so, and prior to that, I hadn't picked up a pencil for art purposes in around 5 years. (since 8th grade) I'm pissed at myself for not taking an art class in high school, but I may sign up for an art class next semester.
I don't classify mine as 3-d, but if you want tips on how to do something like that outline try this. (I did this for some early drawings for something else) take several "stencils" for various objects that are on separate pieces of paper. For example lets say the fused shadows, the twilit throne room, and midna. Tape them up to a window, and trace them all onto a single piece of paper. Than the rest is fairly self-explanatory. The biggest thing is patience. practice is big too, but if you rush, you ruin it. And I speak from experience there... -_-
I hope this helps! if you need clarification just let me know. :)
There are no stupid questions, but the ones with the word "best" in them come pretty close.

Light Lines just in case you have to erase. Use youe imagination. (I write a book).
Don't give up if you fail at first. As long as you're no radical environmentalist , you can use another piece of paper.
It's not pretty being me!
Just try it an you'll see!
It's harder than you think...
